Inclusive Job Adverts

Job adverts another place where we really let ourselves down

when we're trying to attract more neurodiverse candidates.

We pull information from an old job description that doesn't make sense,

then we squeeze that into an advert and we push it out,

and it makes no sense to anybody!

Let alone people who are neurodiverse who think differently

and act differently, but everyone else.

So you end up with people applying with cv's who look incredible on paper

but don't actually fit the needs of the organisation.

So you need to be more focused,

you need to think about the skills of the job and be explicit about that.

Think short term not long term.

Allow the person to get to grips with what that job looks like and feels like.

Think about the title of that job.

If you can't give that job a title that makes sense to the outside world

make sure the first line of the advert makes sense to the outside world

so at least if they see the job title and look down,

the first line makes sense to them,

they apply!

Really simple way to simplify your advert

to make it more accessible for everyone and therefore you increase the amount

of relevant applicants

so you have a better short list of candidates

and increase the element of neurodiversity within that cohort of applicants

simples ;O)
